Annual gifts: Make an instant impact
A gift to an annual fund is one of the best ways to make an immediate impact on the lives of students, patients and the broader university and health system community. Annual gifts — of any amount and to any area of the university or VCU Health — go to those who need it most, such as tuition assistance for deserving students; programs that enhance academic and student life; research, travel and programmatic support for faculty; and lifesaving innovations that transform health outcomes across Virginia and beyond.
You can also direct your gift to enterprisewide funds that provide critical assistance to some of the most vulnerable students among our population.
- Student Emergency Fund: This fund provides one-time financial assistance for students experiencing an unforeseen financial emergency that would otherwise prevent them from continuing their education at VCU.
- Opportunity VCU Scholarships Fund: This fund eliminates barriers to access through need-based awards for first-generation and nontraditional students; those who need a little extra help to finish their degree; and students with other financial needs.
- Fund for VCU Health: This fund fuels lifesaving research, groundbreaking innovation and transformative medical education, empowering future physicians and advancing care for patients today and tomorrow.
- VCU Innovation Annual Fund: This fund provides flexible, immediate support to the areas of VCU that need it most, allowing the university to respond quickly to emerging opportunities, urgent priorities and unforeseen challenges.

Make a memorial or tribute gift
- Donating by check: Checks should be made payable to VCU Foundations and mailed to Virginia Commonwealth University, Attn: Philanthropic Services, Box 843042, Richmond, VA 23284-044. Please note the person’s name in the memo line of your check. If possible, please include family contact and family address so we can notify them of your gift. Dollar amounts are not shared.
- Endowed funds: If you are interested in establishing an endowed fund in honor or in memory of someone, please contact the school or program's development officer.
Stock gifts
If you own stocks or bonds that have appreciated in value, you will incur capital gains taxes upon selling these assets. Donating these securities is a cost-effective and tax-wise way to show your support for VCU.

Corporate and Foundation Relations
Are you a company or foundation looking to invest in VCU or VCU Health? VCU’s Corporate and Foundation Relations team serves as the central point of coordination for private funding partnerships with corporations, foundations and other philanthropic organizations. CFR helps connect partners with university and health system priorities in research, innovation, student success, workforce development and community impact.
For private philanthropic grants, CFR should be the first point of contact. While some opportunities may also require routing through the Office of Sponsored Programs, CFR helps shape proposals to align with funder priorities, develop compelling narratives and coordinate institutional strategy.
